The Organisation

Wirraka Maya Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (WMHSAC) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service designed to ensure our clients' journey through the health system meets their medical, health, social and cultural needs. 

WMHSAC originated from the efforts of Aboriginal people to establish a health service that addressed the unmet needs of Aboriginal people in the Port Hedland, South Hedland areas and surrounding communities. 

WMHSAC has over 7,000 Aboriginal people registered and are actively engaged and regularly receiving primary care, wellbeing and prevention services and programs.  

The Role 

WMHSAC is seeking a Community Pharmacist to join the team on a full time basis.

The Community Pharmacist is responsible for working as part of the Chronic Disease Team in consultation and collaboration with the General Practitioners, Aboriginal Health Practitioners/Workers and Nurses. This includes supporting and assisting the community in the dispensing of medications where required, completing home medication reviews and giving advice, support and education to clients about medication, over the counter and bush medicine, safe storage of medication whilst working towards Closing the Gap and improving the prevention, detection and management of chronic disease.

Role Requirements 

The preferred applicant will be required to hold a valid Western Australian Working with Children Check Card, valid Driver’s License and a National Police Clearance as well as demonstrate knowledge and/or experience in the following:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in pharmacy; and accreditation to conduct HMRs;
  • Communicare experience;
  • Strong Medicare billing knowledge;
  • Computer skills for data entry and e-mail communication;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication;
  • Ability to identify areas that require improvement and work with staff to implement the changes required.
