My name is Jenela. I have been working in the dental industry for 11 years. I have been working with Wirraka Maya Health Service for almost 13 years. My duties involves assisting the dental operator during dental procedures, sterilization of dental instruments, managing of dental supplies and equipment, working with equipment suppliers to handle deliveries, lab work, developing radiographs (x-rays), patient management - being empathetic and helping nervous patients in particular through the patient journey patient education and instruction before, during and after procedures, instructing patients on oral dental hygiene and proper care of dental fixtures, record keeping including recording dental charting and patient notes as dictated by the dentist, as well as scheduling follow up appointments, taking phone calls, confirming appointment and carrying out clerical administrative work.
I enjoy working at Wirraka Maya, the team are great to work with. I enjoy meeting and greeting people from different walks of life and having the opportunity to connect with patients and impact their treatment decision. I like learning diverse cultures and learning different languages. I enjoy becoming a mind reader, anticipating what the dentist is going to do before they even think of it. Seeing sick, nervous patients come in with excruciating pain and come out of the dental surgery with a smile and appreciation of what we do makes me love my job even more and the thought of their health getting looked after and me being a part of it makes me feel accomplished. The ability to multitask and work partially in the dental surgery as well as in the clinic department is a bit of a challenge but fun.
Wirraka Maya health service provides preventative dental care for our indigenous people with chronic medical conditions for example diabetes, respiratory disease, chronic kidney disease, mental health problems, oral health and cardiovascular disease. The dentist visits our clinic on Mondays from 8:30am – 5pm except school holidays or public holidays. To book an appointment please contact the clinic on (08) 9172 0400.
