NDIS

Wirraka Maya supports Aboriginal people living with disability to access and navigate the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in ways that are culturally safe, locally delivered and community‑led. Our NDIS services are designed to reduce barriers, build confidence and support people to live with choice, control and independence.

We work alongside individuals, families and carers across Hedland and surrounding communities, recognising that navigating the NDIS can be complex. Our team takes the time to listen, explain options clearly and walk with people through each stage of their NDIS journey.

Wirraka Maya delivers a wrap‑around NDIS service model, supporting people from initial access through to ongoing plan management and community participation. Our approach is strengths‑based and person‑centred, recognising each individual’s goals, circumstances and cultural context.

Support is provided by local staff who understand community, culture and the challenges faced by people living in regional and remote areas. Wherever possible, we provide face‑to‑face support and outreach, ensuring services are accessible and responsive to community need.

NDIS supports we offer

Wirraka Maya provides a range of NDIS supports, including:

NDIS Access and Application Support

We assist community members to test eligibility and apply for the NDIS, supporting people through paperwork, evidence gathering and planning preparation. Our team can also support participants to prepare for and attend planning meetings.

Support Coordination

Support Coordinators help participants understand and implement their NDIS plans, connect with service providers and make the most of their funded supports. This includes coordinating health, therapy and community services and supporting participants to build skills and confidence over time.

Psychosocial Recovery Coaching

For people living with psychosocial disability, recovery coaching provides tailored, one‑on‑one support focused on mental health recovery, wellbeing and community connection. Coaches work alongside participants to build routines, resilience and independence.

Remote Community Connectors

Our Remote Community Connectors provide outreach support across the region, helping people understand the NDIS, navigate planning processes and ensure their plans are working effectively. This role is especially important for people living in remote or underserved areas.

Core Supports

Wirraka Maya also delivers selected Core Supports, helping ensure continuity of care and reducing the need for people to engage with multiple providers.
